Spiritual Maturity -- Securing Safe Space
You are on a journey to become your new Self. You haven’t told your Mom and Dad about your adventure into independence but you’re an adult now and beyond their influence anyway. When the special family holiday arrives, a visit to your Mom (who you haven’t seen in years) seems appropriate. You’ll just have dinner and catch up. You make the drive to her place feeing great but as the dinner begins, you feel like your seat at the table is right beneath a drafty open window blowing in every old messy family issue into your stomach. You felt great before the dinner and now you can’t wait to get out of there. Driving home, you feel exhausted. What happened to that great mood? What happened to your ‘better than imagined?’
Mothers have more control over their offspring than anyone else. When it comes to her biology, no one compares to the Mom. Fathers influence their children too as long as they live in your house but the influence of the mother is a thousand times stronger. The Mom’s influence can go on and on long after she’s left your house and even after she’s dead.
You have your Mom’s mitochondria DNA. When you are in her proximity, her biology can affect your biology even as an adult.
You may already realize you selected your Mom and Dad. If you were adopted, you chose your non-biological parents too. Adopted children are individuals that wanted one biology and a different emotional environment. You chose your Dad mostly for the emotional environment. You chose your Mom for her mitochondria contribution. When you made the mom election, you also decided how long you would stay in her universe, a choice made before you even got your body.
How long did you decide to stay in your parent’s universe? If your arrangement time has expired and you are still experiencing the parent trap, how do you end it?
